'I'M DONE' OR 'I'M THROUGH'; WHICH IS APPROPRIATE?

Recently, on a hot, sunny Saturday afternoon on the general platform of the Association of Diction Coaches Of Nigeria, Elizabeth posed a question.

'Please I need the correct expression to say when you have finished doing a task.'

Elizabeth wanted to know the correct expression between these two entries; 'I'm done' and 'I'm through'.

Another member, Ibitein swiftly responded by providing a clear explanation and noted that in her opinion, all the options are correct, but with a slight difference:

Here's an excerpt from the post by Ibitein.

1. "I have finished" - This is a more formal and polite way to express that you've completed a task. It's often used in professional or written communication.

2. "I am done" - This is a more formal and slightly more emphatic way to say you've finished something. It's often used in spoken language, especially in American English.

3. "I'm done" - This is an informal and conversational way to say you've finished something. The contraction "I'm" makes it more casual and relaxed. It's often used with friends, family, or in everyday conversations.

Thanks, Coach Ibitein, for promptly responding and clarifying for another member.
